Searching to recover

Our Search & Recovery students had a good days diving at the Waterfront recently. A special well done to them for finding all the items we'd hid for them to find and recover (plus a few extra items, who knew the sea had so many hub caps!!!).

With settled weather over the past week diving this weekend proved to be excellent with 5-6m off the boat, and a good 4m from the shore. Divers had good vis at Hillsea Point and Tinker Shoal and round to the Scylla as well. With flat sea even I wouldn't have been sea sick!!!

Great Night Dive at the Waterfront in Plymouth

Just got back from a great night dive at the waterfront in Plymouth, visability ranged from 2-4m. Loads of marine life too, apart from the usual of velvet swimming crabs, edible crabs and sea anemone also saw two sole and a 'little cuttlefish' never seen one of those at the waterfront before. Just wish I had my camera with me!!!

Thursday evening dives are a regular thing in Plymouth too now, so give us a call if you fancy diving next week. [...]

With relatively settled weather over the past few weeks, even though it has been very cold the visibility in Plymouth at the moment has been really good. Last week we saw 4-5m from the shore and divers at around 18m on the Elk were able to see the guys above on their safety stops. The same was true this weekend as well, with 5m at Eastern Kings this morning and around 6m on the Mewstone this afternoon.

Club Night is on Tuesday 2nd March at Teignmouth Corinthian Yacht Club from 8pm. Our guest speaker this month is Receiver of Wreck, everyone welcome!

Friday 26th February, 7pm in the Jolly Sailor for Fairwell drinks with Laura who is heading back to Egypt and a few Celebratory ones with our 4 new Instructors!

The rumours are true!!! Viz at Babbacombe last night was a good 2 - 3 metres. Those of you who have dived this month will recognise this as a significant improvement and for those of you who haven't - come on, it's getting better!!

There was lots of life on the reef last night, a very large lobster, squat lobsters, tompots, gurnards and more.

Thursday Evening Dives

Despite the poor weather of late the Thursday evening dives are running as planned. So far this year we've had pretty limited visibility above and below the surface and cooler than average temperatures but with the right preparation this shouldn't stop us from diving.

We are finding the need to wear warmer clothes for the pre dive and post dive period and whilst the temperature in the water is a little lower than usual for the time of year heavier thermals [...]

Dispite the poor weather and biting cold good diving is still out there. The Waterfront shore dive located on the seafront in Plymouth provided us with an unexpected six metres viz!!!! The only down side was being called insane by the passing strollers as we were getting changed on the ice covered pavement.

Over 40 people braved the weather to attend Decembers Club Night and hat a fun night it was!

Paul Naylor who is the author of 'Great British Marine Animals' was our guest speaker and gave a fasinating talk about all manner of sealife and their behaviours. He took us on a vertual dive starting in the shallows by the shoreline with some amazing information�on anemones and limpets. It continued into deeper water describing the mating habits of Crabs and Sea Hares!

Despite the limited visibility diving still took place today at Longquarry and on the Perrone. The weather forecast is varied for the next few days and we're hoping things will calm down soon. Don't assume diving isn't taking place, ring us and see.

Big Thanks to Jude for helping me with the stand we had at the Healthy Living Fun Day at Broadmeadow yesterday! I think it was a very sucessful day considering the weather so thank you to everyone who came and to all the organisers!

Reasonable Viz in Babbacombe

Well the conditions in this part of the world have held up remarkably well considering the recent weather!! Viz in Babbacombe was reported yesterday as 3-4m and likewais on Thursday night.

We will be trying to keep this up todate as much as possible over the winter!!

Halloween Night Dive 2009

Halloween came early this year to the Teign Diving Centre and was celebrated on Thursday (29th October) with a fancy dress night dive at Babbacombe Beach. A huge amount of effort went into the costumes and it was a sight behold watching gouls, warlocks, dracula and even giant pumpkins entering the water. Muse Concert in Teignmouth.......

As many of you will already know there is a major concert in teignmouth on Friday and saturday night, the band Muse are coming home to perform on the Seafront!!
So we will be restricted in our diving on Saturday...... however we now have some parking arrangements with Teignbridge so if you are looking to dive in the morning on saturday let us know..... we will probably sort the site to suit the divers who are coming!!

Well the time has arrived when Sophie has decided that filling tanks and teaching at Watcombe with 1m vis isn't all its cracked up to be..... She's off to University to study, get drunk and become a paramedic (Maybe not in that order!). So we thought we'd have a little party for her on Friday 18th Septmeber at the Jolly Sailor in Teignmouth from 7pm onwards. Hope to see you all there......

The sun may have disappeared but the visibility is still good, with flat seas and a little bit of rain!!! the guys had around 8m on the Mewstone this morning. There are still places on the JEL if you wants to dive.
