Good viz at Babbacombe

Easter Egg Hunt 2010Thank you to everyone who turned out on Saturday 10 April for our Easter Egg Hunt Dive. It was a beautiful day with sunshine and blue skies and the diving didn't let us down. The in water temperature was being recorded at a tropical 10 degrees centigrade and the vis was averaging about 5-6 metres. It was a great pleasure to be in clearish water with sunlight dappling on the sea bed. The marine life decided to come out to play with sightings of a large male lumpsucker guarding a clump of eggs, a little cuttle, a large cuttlefish, great quantities of masked crabs and mud runners. The money raisedwill be donated to DDRC.

Good Viz at Babbacombe BeachThe regular Thursday night dive went ahead as usual last week on 25th March and we were pleasantly surprised with a good 4 metres visability at Babbacombe Beach. To allow for low water we headed east behind the breakwater to find lots of life, long spined Scorpion fish, butter fish and top knot to name a few. According to my computer the temperature has risen 1 degree to a balmy 7 degrees :)

Improved viz ....The rumours are true!!! Viz at Babbacombe last night was a good 2 - 3 metres. Those of you who have dived this month will recognise this as a significant improvement and for those of you who haven't - come on, it's getting better!! There was lots of life on the reef last night, a very large lobster, squat lobsters, tompots, gurnards and more.

Thursday Evening DivesDespite the poor weather of late the Thursday evening dives are running as planned. So far this year we've had pretty limited visibility above and below the surface and cooler than average temperatures but with the right preparation this shouldn't stop us from diving. We are finding the need to wear warmer clothes for the pre dive and post dive period and whilst the temperature in the water is a little lower than usual for the time of year heavier thermals and gloves are allowing us to continue to dive. If you fancy a shore dive after work ring the centre to let them know. We can arrange to transport cylinders and/or kit to the dive site for you if you can't get to the dive centre first. A quick call will ensure that you know if conditions are suitable, where we're diving and at what time.

Halloween Night Dive 2009Halloween came early this year to the Teign Diving Centre and was celebrated on Thursday (29th October) with a fancy dress night dive at Babbacombe Beach. A huge amount of effort went into the costumes and it was a sight behold watching gouls, warlocks, dracula and even giant pumpkins entering the water. Although the viz was limited a good dive was had by all with reports of a wide variety of marine life in the bay. Many thanks to all of you who took part and for your contribution towards DDRC, a worthy cause that we all hope we won't be using. Night dives will be taking place on Thursday evenings throughout the autumn and winter months, weather permitting, details of which can be obtained through the dive centre. |
