Dive Centre Summer BBQ

Posted by Bex in Untagged

Bex

With the summer in full swing with good weather and great vis we thought it was about time for the annual dive centre summer BBQ.  This year we'll be returning to the Blue Anchor pub in Teignmouth on Saturday 10th July for a night of fun and amusement and lots and lots of food to keep even the hungriest of divers happy.....

We will also be having a bit of a send off for Russ who is leaving us as full time member of staff, but he will continue to teach on a part-time basis (he'd miss us too much otherwise!).  So come along to buy him a pint or two.

The fun and festivities start from 7pm and are £5/ticket.  Please contact the centre to reserve you ticket.

Hope to see you all there......

Divers have had good vis over the past few days, with 6m off the shore at the waterfront on Wednesday and Thursday as well as 8m at the Eddystone Reef on Monday, they even had a dolphin put in an appearance jumping out of the water.  With the weather looking good for the weekend now is the time to get in the water.

From our school in Teignmouth we have: Bretagne (10am) and Orestone (1pm) on Saturday 5th June and then Sevilla (9.30am) and Long Quarry (2.30pm) on Sunday 6th June.

To book onto any of the dives or for more information please feel free to contact either centre on 01752 263900 (Plymouth) or 01626 773965 (Teignmouth).

Fantastic Dive at Hatt Rock

Posted by Bex in Untagged

Bex

Divers had an amazing dive at Hatt Rock this morning.  With 10-12m visibility they were still able to see the surface at 15m.  The top of the Hatt Rock was covered in many different coloured Jewel Anemones as well as number of Plumose Anemones, Sea Cucumbers and Sea Urchins, now is definitely the time to be in the water.

There are still some spaces on the trips over the Bank Holiday weekend so why not give us a call to book your space so you don't miss out.  Let's just hope the good vis is here to stay :-)

Happy bubbling.....

Easter Egg Hunt 2010

Posted by Jude in Untagged

Jude

Thank you to everyone who turned out on Saturday 10 April for our Easter Egg Hunt Dive.

It was a beautiful day with sunshine and blue skies and the diving didn't let us down.  The in water temperature was being recorded at a tropical 10 degrees centigrade and the vis was averaging about 5-6 metres.   It was a great pleasure to be in clearish water with sunlight dappling on the sea bed.

The marine life decided to come out to play with sightings of a large male lumpsucker guarding a clump of eggs, a little cuttle, a large cuttlefish,  great quantities of masked crabs and mud runners.

The money raisedwill be donated to DDRC.

Good Viz at Babbacombe Beach

Posted by Jude in Untagged

Jude

The regular Thursday night dive went ahead as usual last week on 25th March and we were pleasantly surprised with a good 4 metres visability at Babbacombe Beach.

To allow for low water we headed east behind the breakwater to find lots of life, long spined Scorpion fish, butter fish and top knot to name a few.  According to my computer the temperature has risen 1 degree to a balmy 7 degrees :)

Dolphins in Plymouth Sound :-)

Posted by Bex in Untagged

Bex

The weather may not have been spectacular at the weekend but the sighting of a pod of 7-10 dolphins made for an excellent day on Sunday.  The pod was spotted on the way back in from the first dive around the breakwater and one popped up about a metre from the boat and then stayed around in the wake for a few minutes.  The group on the second dive also got a chance to see this pod as they were still out around the breakwater as the dive boat to Fairylands' headed out.

Here's hoping that dolphins will become a regular sighting on the trips over the summer :-)

Still great vis in Plymouth

Posted by Bex in Untagged

Bex

With settled weather over the past week diving this weekend proved to be excellent with 5-6m off the boat, and a good 4m from the shore.  Divers had good vis at Hillsea Point and Tinker Shoal and round to the Scylla as well.  With flat sea even I wouldn't have been sea sick!!!

Diving for this weekend is on the website so have a look at http://www.plymouthdivingcentre.co.uk/schedule/view_month-5146.html or give as a call at the centre.

Hope to sea you all in the water soon.....

Great Night Dive at the Waterfront in Plymouth

Posted by Bex in Untagged

Bex

Just got back from a great night dive at the waterfront in Plymouth, visability ranged from 2-4m.  Loads of marine life too, apart from the usual of velvet swimming crabs, edible crabs and sea anemone also saw two sole and a 'little cuttlefish' never seen one of those at the waterfront before.  Just wish I had my camera with me!!!

Thursday evening dives are a regular thing in Plymouth too now, so give us a call if you fancy diving next week.  Meeting at 6pm at the dive centre.

Hope to see you all in the water soon.
